Published my First Paperback Book!

Hey guys, it’s been awhile since I last posted. I just would like to update you on a few things. For those that don’t know, I actually released my book – “Your First Five Mistakes” awhile back on 2022. This book is absolutely relevant with copywriting and digital marketing because I highlight a framework for self-improvement and getting better in any skill.

In life, you’re going to make mistakes. I’m in no way shape or form asking you to make SILLY mistakes but I’m talking about creating an environment where failing is okay.

The key is to make small mistakes first, early and fast so you can avoid the big mistakes. Big mistakes are mistakes that are irreversible. Take for example a car crash, if you crash your car – there’s no way to reverse that, you may die. But what if you make a bunch of mistakes in driving school. These are what I call “good mistakes.” Making a ton of small mistakes is how you learn.

In my book, I talk about creating what you call a sandbox arena, a place where it’s safe for you to experiment and to try out new ideas. This is what top companies like Google allow their employees to do, to fail forward. However, creating a sandbox arena requires a high degree of self-confidence and self-esteem.

People on the outside will see you as “failing”, “not making progress, or “mucking about” YOU will see yourself as “failing and not making progress.” But the truth is, you’re acquiring very valuable insight onto your business and life through this process which you would not be able to obtain otherwise.

Making SMALL mistakes are a good thing. You don’t want to go out there and flop very big. That’s a no-no. You want to test the waters, try something different, step by step it. This helps you gain confidence; this is training you to get familiar with whatever you’re trying to learn.

There’s a reason why there’s a saying called, “bleed in training so that you don’t have to suffer in battle.” This is the whole premise of “Your First Five Mistakes”, it’s to make mistakes first so that you don’t have to suffer later.

How To Apply “Your First Five Mistakes” to Copywriting & Digital Marketing

1. Fail fast and fail often

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, I highlighted the notion of testing, in which you have to test what you’ve written. When you test things, you are able to get REAL feedback, not based on theory but based on factual evidence. This is from failing fast and failing often.

2. Don’t be afraid to experiment

What I see a lot of companies fail to do is that they are afraid to experiment. And so their campaigns look everything like everything else. I was talking to one of my ex-clients, a 7-figure entrepreneur, which I was helping them with one of their businesses. My client would always tell me to “do something crazy”, “do something different”, the reason is because if you don’t..you’re just like everyone else, what is your competitive advantage. You must always find ways to stand out. That requires a level of boldness here.

3. Adapt and learn from your mistakes

I never once advocated for failing FOREVER, there comes a tipping point in which the number of mistakes, the effort you’ve put in to learn has reached a point where you are able to achieve a small level of success. It’s because the mistakes you’ve made has given you knowledge onto what you should and should not do.

This comes from learning from your mistakes and having a degree of self-reflection. If you’re always just taking action without any self-reflection, making the same mistakes over and over again – then you’re missing the point (and very likely going to be stuck in the same place)

What you want to do is to make new mistakes to get new data. Using the data that you have acquired, pivot and try a different approach until you reach a desired solution. This is called trial-and-error, a concept that is important in business.

Finally, here’s a picture of me getting published with BK Magazine about this specific book. Cheers.
