As virtual interactions are becoming increasingly important due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you may have heard about the Metaverse.

What is the Metaverse? How does it affect what I do? And what will you do when your entire life becomes a virtual reality game?

What is the Metaverse

In 2021, Mark Zuckerberg renamed his company Facebook, into “Meta”, to commemorate the advancement of the Metaverse. With the Metaverse, you can do practically anything you want in real life, like going to school. Taking classes. Going to work. Meeting friends. Watching movies.

As long as you have the devices and the internet connection to access it, you can access the Metaverse either through the internet or with a virtual reality headset. Facebook also acquired Oculus Rift in 2014 for $2billion, which virtual reality headsets will play a crucial role in accessing the Metaverse.

The tech that Metaverse uses deals with the goal of reaching what many computer scientists call: “Web 3.0”. Web 3.0 stems from the evolution from Web 2.0 which is what we have right now with the internet.

The goal of this is to embody an increased level of interconnectedness around the world through the internet. In which you will be able to own, control and monetize content or the information you have through the use of Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain.

The movie “Ready Player One” has a lot of similarities of what the Metaverse could potentially be.

Think of the Metaverse as similar to the movie: “Ready Player One”, where in players are able to live their lives completely in the video game without actually needing to participate in the real world, the money you earn in the virtual reality will also be connected to your financial bank accounts.

By the way, you can also own virtual land in the metaverse. Just like in real life.

In the Metaverse, you can purchase each plot of land through the use non-fungible-tokens(NFTs). Some plots are going at $10,000 cheapest. It actually sounds crazy, but it’s happening.

Unthinkable developments 20 years ago like this of owning virtual property, is blurring the lines of reality and the virtual. But this goes to show what the Metaverse is capable of doing.

Copywriting in the Metaverse

There has been many rumors saying that the Metaverse’s aim is decentralization of governing bodies, in which eventually it will be self-run by AI.

How will copywriting and marketing be affected by the metaverse? Currently, many businesses that have opened up shop in the Metaverse will need the use of copy to generate content and informative articles. The Metaverse at its current state remains a huge niche with potential for growth.

However, the eventual goal will be that the contents that are being generated are done so through the use of AI.

Though, the base of the current Metaverse still needs copywriters and new entrepreneurs to get its engine moving.

Copywriting for Metaverse apps however, is in demand. Blockchain and NFTs remain huge buzzword that are being thrown around that needs education which is a potential for new entrepreneurs to capture the market share. This is where the demand of Metaverse copywriters come in.

What will happen after the buzz runs out and the Metaverse takes shape is however too early to decide.

Will this Technology be Sustainable for us?

Although many experts may argue otherwise.

I personally do not think our current environment is ready for the complexities of the Metaverse.

The current Web 2.0 environment is already decentralized, meaning there is no central-governing body that decides what happens. Metaverse on the other hand, will be owned by Meta who will make executive decisions of what will happen.

It may really be too soon to say if the implications of this are good or bad as our world has become more reliant day by day on technology. From having under-the-skin embedded technology such as microchips to the Neurolink to living your entire life in a virtual reality headset.

The Metaverse may still sound like science fiction to many as it won’t be until 10 years till this kind of technology becomes available and also popular to the public. For now, the Metaverse remains a niche market that has the potential to go mainstream.
