Is it Necessary for Copywriters to Learn Artificial Intelligence?

Published by Jeet Tan on

A hot topic nowadays is the rise of ChatGPT and artificial intelligence. The graphic processors that are used to power AI, NVIDIA is now the 2nd most valuable company in the world.

So, I understand your concerns of the role in AI and marketing.

From personal experience working with clients as well as working in-house. Many companies that offer tech as a service have pivoted their marketing efforts to use ChatGPT.

Which sparks the debate of using Artificial intelligence as a tool VS using artificial intelligence as a complete replacement to the human being.

Artificial intelligence at its current point of innovation is widely used as a tool to help copywriters come up with new ideas, research and brainstorm ideas. However, to use artificial intelligence to completely replace marketing teams is still a far-fetched scenario.

As copywriters, marketers and entrepreneurs I believe it’s very important to understand the world we’re living in and the trends that dictate our global marketplace.

So yes, it’s important for copywriters to learn artificial intelligence. However, to completely be reliant on artificial intelligence is another story. I believe artificial intelligence can help streamline many tasks such as research. However, it can only act as an aid a person and not be a replacement to a human being.

The reason is because human beings understand the deep psychology of why people buy, which is through trust. What exactly creates trust with people? I can say that it’s all about human relationships and building bridges. But to put it simply – people buy from people that understand their world view and are likeable.

Creating likeability is only possible through face-to-face interactions or through an expression of emotion. This is where we can create a mutual understanding. There will always be objections to why people will choose not to do business with you.

An AI cannot identify those objections, only people can understand the objections and the problems that are preventing people from creating the sale. All objections will come down to the delivery of the product, WILL me USING this product SOLVE an existing problem in my life.

An AI no matter how good in sales, will never be able to give 100% assurance because the service will always be done by humans OR maintained by human beings. Only a human being that has checked through things can give someone 100% assurance.

This assurance of confidence will come across your delivery of your presentation. If your confidence wanes, people can sense it and probably will think you’re bullshit.

Businesses are created by humans for humans and therefor are imperfect, a too perfect business may have doubts being raised by others people. When we lose that human touch, that’s when people will go to a place where care is placed onto them.

We have to win people one by one through our actions, efforts. Marketing is the same, we are putting effort in our marketing because we want to attract customers. If AI does the automation for this (content creation NOT scheduling), it will not be able to understand what people want, how to attract people.

AI is only as good as its user. If a person using AI can understand how to use AI to achieve its goal, then perhaps that marketer will be successful with AI. Otherwise, the use of AI will only reach the level of skill of its user.

However, do expect the developments of AI to accelerate for the next few years. Although I disagree with using AI generated copy, there are already tools that use AI t keep a database & organize winning campaigns into a simpler more readable manner. AI is great in the sense of making your job easier with technology, but it’s still far off from replacing humans in any sense.

Soon, the AI revolution will take over so as marketers, entrepreneurs and copywriters we have to be prepared to answer questions relating to how our business will use technology to enhance our experience.
