Published by Jeet Tan on

A website is a staple tool for any businesses alike as it remains the first professional touchpoint for a potential customer.

If you have a product you want to sell, many have asked the question on how do you make money through your website? To start, if you have the following components in a website, you have a strong foundation to be able to make money through your website:

#1 Be well designed.

#2 Contain relevant contact information.

#3 Have strong sales copy.

#4 Must help educate visitor through content.

Once you have a handle on those four elements, next is to run traffic to the website, there are many options you can choose for running traffic. I’ll list you three.

SEO

Strengths: Consistent traffic.

Cons: Long-term effort. Needs maintenance and time to build.

SEO is about ranking your website for specific keyword on Google’s search engine platform. It creates traffic by having people search for terms, click on your website.

Paid ads

Strengths: Immediate results.

Cons: Traffic stops the moment you stop paying.

Paid ads is all about buying advertisement space from platforms that already have a large amount of traffic, for example YouTube or Facebook and directing the traffic to your website.

Social Media Marketing

Strength: Established brand equity, social media works with warm traffic meaning they are easier to convert than cold traffic. (SEO & ads)

Cons: Takes time to build.

Social media marketing is about taking an existing brand online (hopefully your brand) and sending traffic through your social media channels to your website.

Which Traffic to Choose?

Once you have a traffic/promotion strategy coming in, and a functioning website. Next is to promote your website to the right audience and wait for the leads to come in.

For every stage of the buyer’s journeys, there’ll be a number of leads that fall off but the ones that stay and purchase your products are the ones that become your customer.

This is called a conversion ratio, a very important metric in determining the profitability of your website.

In terms of traffic strategy, you want to choose a traffic strategy that will help you acquire the highest quality of leads. In which they are the types of people that are predisposed to your product.

Depending on your requirements, traffic strategy takes time to build, unless you’re doing paid ads. So, you want to map out a timeframe of how long you want your campaign to last.

One campaign will generate X number of customers, and the X number of customers are how you will make money through your website. However, if you do run the campaign and you’re not closing the sales you want – you need to change either your product, the elements in your website or your traffic strategy to make it all work together.

If all of these elements – the product, the copy (website) and the traffic are working in conjunction you have created a profitable sales funnel. And that’s how you make money through your website.
